Adjuncts

I’ve been teaching part time for the past few years at a state college here in Nevada. I’ve also started teaching online, which is a different type of teaching, but I have a masters degree dedicated to that art and I’m glad to finally be teaching in that environment, too.

I like teaching and, in general, it’s been rewarding. But, there’s a problem with being a part-time adjunct. In both settings I was requested to teach two different sections and in both settings, due to poor enrollment, I had a class taken away. This hasn’t happened to me before. And, it sucks. I mean, you build your budget based on work assignments and then when half of them go away, well, your budget is out the window.

It makes me a bit blue. But, now I’ve got that counting chickens before cliche in my head…
